Disk
Doctors India extends data recovery service from RAID 0 to
RAID 5
RAID array is a collection of drives which together act as
a single storage system and can tolerate the failure of a
drive without losing data and can operate independently of
each other. RAID was first used by researchers at the University
of California at Berkeley, during investigations on the use
of multiple-drive arrays in 1987.
RAID also typically provides fault tolerance as redundant
disks are included into the array and data is split in such
a way that there is no loss of performance or data ability
if any single disk fails.
Small, medium and large enterprises use application servers,
NAS devices, fileservers, web servers and many other types
of servers for business data storage. The expanding capacities
and increase redundancy requirements the hard drives can deliver
without spending huge amounts on high end drives.
The most common situations identified for
data loss in Server Hard disks, NAS, or RAID Arrays are:
- Server unable to boot
- Media surface contamination and damage
- Inaccessibility of drives and partitions
- Corrupt data or files
- Fire and water damage
- Hard disk drive component failure
- Virus attack
- Applications unable to run or load data
- Lost server registry configuration
- Accidental deletion of data
- RAID array/controller failure
- Intermittent drive failure resulting in configuration
corruption
- Accidental replacement of media components
- Multiple drive failure
- Accidental reconfiguration of RAID drives
- Hard drive crashes
- Accidental reformatting of partitions
Disk Doctors India supported manufacturers
of RAID Arrays, NAS & Servers:
- Standalone and rack-mounted RAID Arrays using Fibre Channel,
SCSI or IDE drives from Hitachi, Compaq, IBM, EMC &
Hewlett-Packard.
- Network Attached Storage servers from Snap!, Maxtor, Iomega
Quantum, NSS µStor and HP SureStore devices.
- Enterprise, Departmental & Workgroup servers from
Dell, Compaq, NEC, Sun, Hewlett-Packard & IBM.
Process of data recovery from Servers,
RAID Arrays and NAS:
The failed disk is first assessed to check whether the disk
is operable or does it need to be operated by the help of
our lab equipment. Once the disk is operated Disk Doctors
India mirrors the data by creating a raw image of data to
work further for analysis. In situation of physical failure
of disk where Disk Doctors India are unable to access or operate
the device it is assumed that physical components of drive
are damaged or failure in mechanical or electrical components
of the device.
Once the check is complete for physical, mechanical or electrical
failure of components then the failed component is replaced
with the new one and then we complete the mirroring of data.
Usually components failed are read and write heads, drive
motors or magnets, electronic components or head assemblies.
Multiple-drive servers are typically 'destriped' onto our
media so that file system repairs can be performed and the
data files extracted. Sometimes the existing file system structures
are missing or damaged so much that data has to be extracted
directly from one or more fragments of the destriped image.
Logical recovery uses the raw images of the entire server’s
media by examining the low-level data sectors. Our engineers
determine the exact layout of volumes to which span or striped
across multiple drives and fix the file system structures
to access the important data.
Our engineers first analyze then de-stripe then fix &
recover data from raw images. Once the recovery has been successfully
performed, the list of files is created and data validity
is checked.
